Published Constitution
This spring semester, the chapter decided that the constitution had been edited and revised in such a way that it is now fully presentable to the public. This is a huge leap forward for our newly recolonized chapter which saw years of painstaking detail placed into finalizing revisions and correcting cohesiveness to allow for the creation of this beautiful document. We give a big thanks to Michael Keane ‘12, the original author of our constitution. Beta Theta Pi prides itself as the first fraternity to openly share their constitution and our chapter is happy to follow in those footsteps. If you would like to view it, the link is here. We welcome any comments or criticisms.
Betas in Philanthropy
Betas were heavily involved in philanthropy last semester. With two Habitat for Humanity builds, volunteering for Greek Week and Rush Week, and also hosting our own philanthropy week, betas are helping the greater Greenville community in a variety of ways! Our philanthropy week, which was themed for March Madness basketball, raised a total of $1,073 that went directly to Habitat for Humanity in Greenville.
?Initiation, The gathering of new and old Betas
Spring initiation took place on the night of March 22 nd at a breath taking cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We were happy to see alumni come for the event and would like to welcome many more for next year! We are pleased to report that all newly initiated brothers are true men of principle, gentlemen and scholars. We welcome the following men into the open arms of eternal brotherhood:
¨ Jeremiah Ockunzzi '17
¨ Hank Ellison ‘18
¨ Casey Carrell ‘18
¨ Costa Huang ‘17
¨ Alex Loeb ‘18
¨ Everett Haugh ‘18
¨ Craig Uryase ‘17
We couldn’t be happier to have these fine men join us. Each has striven to help the chapter grow in their own vision and the chapter is happy to help mold them into the purest form of diamonds. The enthusiasm shown in each of these men has been extremely remarkable and will ensure Zeta Lambda’s continued success.
The Lambda Pledge class would like to share their own words about who they are to alumni. If you would like to read them, please click here.

October 23-25, 2015 is homecoming weekend next fall, and we would love to see everyone who is able to attend. This year Beta is paired with the sorority, Delta Delta Delta for homecoming. We look forward to bringing you all a wonderful tailgating experience on Saturday the 24th, and we invite you all to spend that evening with the chapter as well on a smaller, more intimate scale as to reconnect with brothers. On Saturday, November 7th, the final recipient of the Men of Principle Scholarship will be announced at an evening banquet. We would appreciate your support for the young man we select. Information about the Men of Principle Scholarship can be found here. If you would like to donate specifically to our Scholarship fund to help these growing men, please make a note of that in our donation page. Additionally, in spring of 2015 the chapter plans to attend the Carolina Cup derby. Unfortunately, dates for the event have not yet been made available on their website, and the specific date is still to be determined. We would like to invite any and all alumni to come enjoy the derby with the chapter in what will hopefully be a new tradition. Expect more Events to forwarded to you as they are made at the start of the new upcoming school year.
Alex Draftz’s Wedding
Congratulations to Brother Alex Draftz ‘12 and Mrs. Marjie Schondelmaier Draftz ‘13, on their wedding on the 21st of March, 2015. Both husband and wife are Furman alumni participating in Greek life, with Marjie Draftz being a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma, as well as being the Beta Rose her senior year. As a testament to friendship and brotherhood for life, four of the five groomsmen were Furman Betas. On behalf of the Zeta Lambda chapter of Beta Theta Pi, we formally congratulate the happy couple, and wish them a joyous life together.
